Cllr Jon Barry, who was Lancaster's first Green Party mayor during 2015/16 supported two charities: St John's Hospice and funding schoolchildren to attend Leighton Moss Nature Reserve. Jon said:
"The last of the school visits to Leighton Moss takes place on 30th March. Trumacar Primary School, Heysham, will be bringing 47 x Year 3 children to the reserve for nature-based outdoor learning activities – ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ and ‘Rocks and Soils’. This is one of four schools that my funding supported - mainly raised by the "Mayor's Bash" at the Town Hall and a generous donation from a local resident. We tried to make sure that the schools that attended were those that had never been to Leighton Moss before. I very much hope that the lessons about nature that these children learn will stick with them as they go through their lives."
