On Thursday 28 September there will be a very winnable by-election for
Lancaster City Council in Halton-with-Aughton ward, just a couple of miles
upriver from Lancaster. This is a great opportunity to gain another Green
Councillor, to join the group of 7 Green City Councillors who are doing
excellent work in Lancaster.
Our candidate is Jan Maskell, who lives in the ward (unlike the Conservative
and Lib Dem candidates). There is also a Labour candidate. All four parties
are trying to win the seat. It was held for many years by an Independent
councillor, who recently resigned due to ill health. Greens came a close
second last time (2015) with 28% of the vote in a 4-way contest, so we are
well-placed to win this time.
Can you help us to win this seat? We need help with:
* Door-knocking. Training will be provided, and you can shadow a more
experienced canvasser at first if you like. You don’t need to know much
about local issues or Green policies – the main aim is to be visible, find
out who our supporters are, and get across a couple of key messages to
