First volunteer session in the long-awaited community space at De Vitre Garden.

5 October 2018

Last month, over 25 local people turned up to the first morning on the site of the future De Vitre De Vitre Street Garden Gets Underwaypublic garden since the lease was signed by the North Lancashire Community Land Trust (NLCLT) with the NHS to create a community green space on the land next to De Vitre House on Ashton Road.

Funding has been secured, and paths will be soon be installed so that planting fruit trees and other plants can begin soon after.  The first of future regular volunteer work days is now planned for Saturday 13th October from 10am to 1pm.

City Councillor Abi Mills who helped set up  the Friends of the De Vitre Garden said

"I think this will be a very useful community resource for people living in this part of the ward where there is no other community building for people and neighbours to gather and get together.

County councillor Gina Dowding as a director of the NLCLT has been instrumental in helping to push forward the idea of the garden.”
