Why is Lancaster City Council selling off some council housing on Mainway?

Cllr Caroline Jackson, Cabinet member for Housing and Deputy Leader of Lancaster City Council, explains the background to the difficult decision that councillors have taken to sell off some Council housing on Mainway that would be too expensive to upgrade, in order to help fund 130 new and refurbished Council-owned homes in Skerton, on the site of the former Skerton School.

Cllr Jack Lenox, has helped develop a new policy for the Green Party on artificial intelligence (AI) which was adopted at its conference in Brighton earlier this month. In a speech to hundreds of party members, Councillor Lenox addressed concerns about the rise of machine learning, including the potential impact on jobs and livelihoods, and how we can best use AI technology to our benefit, and protect individuals ownership of their creative output.

Launch Success for Greaves Playpark

The Friends of Greaves Park (FoGP) have celebrated the opening of their new play area with over 150 children and adults attending the launch event on Saturday 10th June in glorious sunshine. Green Councillor for Scotforth West, Cllr Abi Mills, coordinated the refurbishment of the park, organising consultations with the local community and successfully raising over £60k for the new equipment, drainage and surfacing.

We are celebrating our successful results in Thursday’s local elections. We now has 21 Councillors out of 61 on Lancaster City Council. This is a net gain of 11 seats compared with the last all-out elections to Lancaster City Council in 2019. This makes the Lancaster Green group of councillors the third largest in England and Wales!

On Sunday, after a talk about Emily Williamson with displays in the Ashton Memorial, a blue plaque heritage was unveiled by her great, great niece, zoologist and bird scientist Professor Melissa Bateson. Emily's campaign against the plumage trade helped save thousands of birds globally.

The Green Party are the only party that has managed to field a full slate of 61 councillors for next month’s elections to Lancaster City Council. Neither the Conservatives nor the Labour Party have managed to field a candidate for every seat. Well over half of the Green candidates are women or non-binary, and nearly a quarter are under the age of 30.

The Eden Project North

The Eden Project North is coming to Morecambe after £50m of government cash has been confirmed. This is half of the projected £100m cost of building the eco-attraction on the central Promenade, with the remainder of the funds coming from private and philanthropic sources. This will be a game changer for Morecambe, transforming a derelict site on the seafront - 4.8 hectares of land on the central promenade, near the Midland hotel - into a world class visitor attraction. We can and must make this THE most sustainable, low carbon, visitor project of the north .. and the decade!
