20th August - Update on Fracking Protests

20 August 2017

Emily Heath provides the following update on the anti-fracking protests at Preston New Road: The first ‘Green Monday’ event at Preston New Road on 14th August was very successful, with representation from at least 11 Green Party branches as well as Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace.  Natalie Bennett gave an excellent speech at the roadside, and got some press and radio coverage. We hope that Green Mondays will become even bigger and better. With more people
there it may be possible to stop Cuadrilla working on site for the day. Sadly they have begun drilling this week, although they won’t actually begin fracking until later this year or early next year.

Please consider coming along to the protests on at least one of the following dates:

* Monday 21st Aug – with Jamie Peters, Friends of the Earth’s anti-fracking campaign coordinator, speaking at 12.30 pm.

* Tuesday 29th August (day after bank holiday Monday) - with optional fancy dress on the theme of the sea (think sailors, mermaids, sea creatures, seaside fun …)

* Friday 1st Sept – Funday! A 49-seat coach will leave Dalton Square at 9.30am, returning from World of Water (close to the fracking site) at 4.30pm. To book a seat please contact 07835 794229. Suggested donation £5, but no charge for accompanied children or anyone who can’t afford to make a donation.

* Monday 4th Sept – with Amelia Womack, Deputy Leader of the Green Party.

If you like to share a car (as driver or passenger) please contact mailto:emilyheath@phonecoop.coop and I’ll try to put you in touch with other
car-sharers.

If you can’t make any of these days, you could go on any other weekday – there’s lots happening every week and you will be welcome whenever you go!
Some other themed days in August/Sept include trade union days, faith group days, women wearing white on Wednesdays, carnivals on Fridays, etc. Don’t beput off by reports of police aggression - these are peaceful protests and there’s little risk of getting arrested or hurt. There is a café and toilets nearby.

The postcode is PR4 3PH, on the #61 bus route from Kirkham to Blackpool, 15 minutes from Kirkham-and-Wesham station.
