4 April 2018
We have an unexpected opportunity for two people to try to get elected in the University & Scotforth Rural Ward this May (for 1 year only), because two Labour councillors have resigned. This is definitely a winnable ward for us – Greens have been elected there on several occasions in the last few years (e.g. 2007, 2014, 2015). At the last by-election in December 2016, we were only 19 votes behind the winning Labour candidate, and they won with only 98 votes on a shockingly low turnout of 7%.
We are looking for someone who is available to run a short election campaign (partly online) in April and early May, with lots of support from our experienced Green team. If elected you would need to spend at least 6 hours per week on councillor duties in 2018/19, for which you would receive an annual allowance of £3,300 plus expenses. If you are potentially interested, please contact mailto:emilyheath@phonecoop.coop for further information.
Nominations must be finalised by Thursday 19 April, and the elections are on Thursday 17 May.
