17/05/2019: NEWS FROM OUR NEW GROUP OF 10 GREEN COUNCILLORS

25 May 2019

The new Green Group has been meeting regularly since the election to figure out roles and priorities for the next couple of years. Caroline Jackson and Dave Brookes are co-leaders of the group, and negotiations are progressing towards the formation of a Labour-Green-Lib Dem shared administration of the City Council (these 3 parties together have 34 out of the 60 Council seats), with Greens likely to get 3 cabinet places. Assuming this is agreed at the first Full Council meeting on Monday, our Green cabinet members will be Caroline, Dave and Tim Hamilton-Cox.

Hopes are high that this will be the most progressive Council for a long time. The three groups are currently exploring their common ground and different ideas/priorities for the direction that the Council should take.
Looming over those discussions, the Council is facing a huge budget deficit next year. But there is a good spirit of co-operation building and a shared sense that action on climate change and reducing emissions will be factored in to all the Council's decision-making.
