Jamie Payne selected to stand in University and Scotforth Rural ward by-election

17 October 2021

Local Greens are delighted that Jamie Payne has been selected to stand in the forthcoming by-election.

Jamie is a final year Politics and International Relations student at Lancaster University. Prior to university, he worked as a primary school teaching assistant. Over the last year, he has played a key role in getting the Lancaster University Green Party student society up and running, despite the challenges of pandemic lockdowns, and looks forward to further growing the society in his role as co-president. Outside of politics, Jamie is a saxophonist who runs bands at the university and plays with local musicians and is a keen runner who recently completed the London Marathon for charity.

Jamie says: "Green Party policies and values resonate with young people, and I’m optimistic we can convince students and local residents to vote Green in this by-election. I’m proud that our party puts social justice and the environment at the heart of all its policies, which can be seen locally through our track record of campaigning against unsustainable development in South Lancaster and in the urgent action taken in response to the climate and ecological emergency. I can’t wait to start campaigning and I’m hopeful that I can become the next Green city councillor!"
