Successful launch event for new play equipment at Greaves Park

12 June 2023

The Friends of Greaves Park (FoGP) have celebrated the opening of their new play area with over 150 children and adults attending the launch event on Saturday 10th June in glorious sunshine. Children (and some adults!) enjoyed using their new play equipment, having their faces painted, playing parachute games and picnicking with families and friends.

Green Councillor for Scotforth West, Cllr Abi Mills, coordinated the refurbishment of the park, organising consultations with the local community and successfully raising over £60k for the new equipment, drainage and surfacing.

Cllr Abi Mills said “The launch event was amazing, the atmosphere in the park was buzzing all day from 10 am!

"I smiled throughout the whole event, it was incredible to see and hear so many children enjoying the park, and I look forward to playing in it with the children I child-mind."

"A huge thank you to the face painters, to Little Pebbles toddler group for the games, to The Greaves Park Pub for the refreshments and to Lancaster City Council public realm team for their amazing support.

"The project has taken a couple of years to come to fruition, with various consultations to ensure we were putting in equipment that we knew the community wanted. For example, everyone said they wanted more swings, so we have 7 different swings in the park - all to suit different ages and abilities."

FoGP would also like to thank all the funders who made this project possible - Lancashire Environmental Fund, Walney Extension Community Fund, Lancaster University Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund, Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, The Duchy of Lancaster and the local community.
