The Great Climate Fight on Channel 4 explores the importance of the Sixth Carbon budget in a very accessible way. The 2nd episode aired on 21st and 22nd November. Together with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Mary Portas, Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud highlights Lancaster City Council’s battle to improve environmental standards in new house building.
Green Cabinet Member for Climate Action on Lancaster City Council, Cllr Gina Dowding said:
“In the second programme, Lancaster’s Principal Planning Policy Officer outlines the council’s decision to review its Local Plan in light of the climate emergency three years ago, and how its attempts to demand more from new housebuilders than the Government’s own energy efficiency standards have being frustrated by a ministerial statement from 2015. Kevin tracked down Michael Gove (Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities) to demand change… with the programme showing the result of the encounter."
