Maria Deery

Maria is a Psychology student at Lancaster University with a passion for politics and giving back to the local community.  She moved to Lancaster last year from Birmingham and has fell in love with all that the area has to offer.

At Sixth Form, Maria was a member of the student council and was a key player in organising and staffing numerous charity fundraisers which in total raised thousands of pounds for various charities. She has also been a volunteer for the Mind charity, working in one of their charity shops helping to raise money and awareness for mental health conditions, ensuring that no one has to face mental health struggles alone, a message she hopes to push further through both the political system and through her degree.

Maria is a firm believer in the ideas and values of the Green Party and feels she would be capable of best putting these ideas of climate action and support for the local community into practise while being a voice for young people, a group so often overlooked in politics.

Maria was a Heysham South Ward Candidate for Lancaster City Council in 2023, and is currently standing in the by-election for University Ward.

Become A Green Friend

Our movement is growing. We need as many people on board as possible to change the nature of politics in England and Wales.

Did you know that you don't have to become a member to help us build fairer greener communities? We are inviting everyone to become a Green Friend, because you don’t have to be a member of the Green Party to show you care about politics and the planet.
