Emily works part-time at Lancaster University, teaching Earth Sciences in Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC). She has lived in Lancaster since 1990 and was a Green City Councillor between 1999-2011. One of her achievements was to lead a review of allotments, which resulted in the creation of a new allotment site and a change of policy that enabled Allotment Associations to keep the rental income from plot-holders, to fund improvements to their sites. Emily is an active member of the Universities & Colleges Union (UCU), the LEC Sustainability Group and Share Action, which campaigns for ethical investment of pensions. She is heavily involved in the battle to save Freeman’s Wood, and helped to raise the funds to install a green gym on Coronation Field. In 2017 she was arrested for taking peaceful direct action to try to stop fracking at Preston New Road near Blackpool.
