Shelagh McGregor - Lancaster City Councillor for Castle Ward

 Shelagh retired from her career in local government after thirty years of working with various Councils in Yorkshire, Scotland and Cumbria. She has lived in Lancaster since 2009 whilst serving as the Chief Finance Officer of South Lakeland District Council in Kendal for ten years. Shelagh has a breadth of experience across many services in district and county councils. She started her career as a trainee public sector accountant after which enhancing her business acumen by studying for a master’s in business administration.

Shelagh has always wanted to work as part of the local community in the public sector, and her background will enable her to understand and work with others to deliver the priorities that are most important to the local area.

Since retiring early, Shelagh has volunteered as a trustee for a local housing charity which aims to enable local people to remain where they grew up via affordable rents. She is also a trustee for a charity which aims to provide fully accessible, all-inclusive activity breaks for people with disabilities and special needs. Shelagh is enthusiastic about improving the quality of easily accessible green spaces and regularly gets involved in the maintenance of the areas in the Castle ward where she lives.

Shelagh was elected to Lancaster City Council, representing Castle Ward in 2023.
