Lancaster Fairtrade District 20th Anniversary Celebration

13 March 2024

On Saturday 9th March, Lancaster, Morecambe and District Fairtrade Group celebrated the 20th anniversary of the area becoming a Fairtrade District. Cllr Abi Mills, who has been the councillor liaison with the group for the past three years, helped organise an event at Lancaster Town Hall to celebrate all their work over the past twenty years to promote Fairtrade.

Abi - pictured here with Cllr Caroline Jackson - said “Fairtrade is something I have always been incredibly passionate about, as it’s one of the most effective ways of fighting poverty in the developing world, and when you get to dress up as a banana to promote it - it’s even better!”

Children from Torrisholme School and Lune Valley Rainbows attended. Roger Dennison, the Mayor of Lancaster presented certificates to local children who have been working on Fairtrade projects. Cat Smith MP presented the group's Co-ordinator, Margaret Rand, with a framed copy of congratulations from the House of Commons.
