Abi Mills has lived in Greaves with her family for 28 years, having studied for a PGCE in the early nineties at University of Cumbria. She has been a Green City Councillor for Scotforth West since 2014 and has a huge amount of experience. Abi has worked tirelessly in Scotforth West taking up casework and working with and on behalf of residents.
In May 2024 Abi became the Mayor of Lancaster with her son, Councillor Hamish Mills, becoming the Deputy Mayor, and is unfortunately having to reduce her Mayoral duties for the time being, due to needing treatment for breast cancer.
In the last 10 years, Abi has formed the local Bus Users’ Group, established the South Lancaster Community Emergency Centre, has set up the Friends of Dorrington Woods and Play Park Group and has been active with the Friends of De Vitre Gardens. Abi was a founder member of the Friends of Greaves Park and Abi’s most recent project was to raise over £60000 for the refurbishment of the play area in Greaves Park.
Abi is the Chair of Lancaster District Green Spaces, a charity that supports local green spaces groups and promotes green spaces in the district. Abi is also a passionate advocate for accessibility issues, and as Disability Champion for the City Council, Abi has coordinated a series of community conversations about disability access and has established a Lancaster District Access Group to work towards ensuring that everyone has an equal access to services and buildings in the area.
If Abi ever gets any free time, it is spent outdoors – walking in the hills and woods, sailing and swimming in the sea or lakes.
