Hamish Mills

Lancashire County Council Candidate for Lancaster South East

Vote Green – Vote Hamish Mills for Lancaster South East

Hamish is running for the County Council Seat of Lancaster South East, if elected as a county councillor
this will allow Hamish to work closer with officers regarding the areas of local government that the County Council provides, including road quality, public transport and the management of social care. One of Hamish’s top priorities will be to improve the public transport provision and improve the quality-of-service people have access to.

About Hamish

Hamish was born and raised in Lancaster, went to Bowerham Primary School, and has been active in the local green party since a young child. He studied Outdoor Adventure at Kendal College, he is now studying Arboriculture and Tree Management at Myerscough College.

Hamish has been active in the Bowerham community for years, by organising litter picks and other community events and is involved in local community groups such Friends of Dorrington Woods and Play Park.

He is the former chair of Lancaster Youth For the Environment (LYFE), bringing young people together to discuss solutions to the climate emergency and get their voices heard. He organised local youth climate strikes, demanding system change to combat the Climate Emergency, and assisted with the campaign for the City Council to declare a climate emergency, which passed in January 2019.

Hamish is also a member of the North Lancashire Green Party Executive Committee in the role of local Young Greens Co-ordinator.

Lancaster City Councillor – Bowerham Ward

Hamish was elected in May 2023 as one of the Lancaster City Councillors for Bowerham Ward. He regularly walks around the ward to check on road conditions, litter and many other things and keeps an eye on planning applications, notifying residents and commenting when necessary. He has used his position as a councillor to work closer with council officers to resolve issues in and around the ward, ranging from the parks and playgrounds to street cleanliness and road maintenance.

Hamish has sat for two years as the chair of Lancaster City Council’s Standards committee, where he has dealt with complaints regarding councillor behaviour in regards to the code of conduct.

In May 2024 Hamish became Deputy Mayor of Lancaster City Council, with his mother Councillor Abi
Mills serving as Mayor. As Abi underwent cancer treatment during her year as Mayor, Hamish stood in for
her in many duties, and his exemplary service was recognised by the previous Mayor and the chamber
the final time he chaired Council in April 2025.
