Lancashire County Council Candidate for Lancaster Rural East

Sally lives in Glasson Dock with her husband and their dog, Harry. She is a proud step-parent to four children and two grandchildren. She worked in Lancaster City Council’s planning department for 14 years, and later as a community development manager in the charity sector.

At 53 Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer, and retired early while in recovery.

In a by election in May 2022, Sally was elected to Lancaster City Council to represent Ellel Ward.

This was the first time the Greens in North Lancashire had won a rural ward and gained a seat from the Conservatives, and took the Green group to a total of 11 Councillors, and the 2nd largest group on the Council.

Soon after, Sally joined management team of the Green group of Councillors, and as such, also sits on the Executive Committee of the local party. 

In 2024 she joined Council’s Cabinet with the Corporate Services Portfolio.

As a City Councillor, Sally enjoys using her professional skills, and many years experience helping local residents and businesses to access services and overcome problems, to give back to her local community. For example, she saw that flooding is a huge threat to a great proportion of Ellel ward and so founded the Thurnham and Glasson Flood Forum to address some of these issues with relevant agencies.

Sally  believes in collaboration, partnership working , sharing skills and knowledge and also in fairness, truth and open government. When faced with an intransigent problem she is persistent to ensure and a solution in the end.

“I would like to become a county councillor so that I can have better access to county council services for my residents who find it hard to contact the right people, let alone get anything to happen!”
